"Wedding"
by Heather Johnson
Three bridesmaids and a maid of honor stood before the assembled guests. They stood and stood and waited and waited for the bride to come down the aisle.
“What should we do?” whispered the 14-year old. She was the groom’s youngest sister.
“Smile,” said the tallest bridesmaid. She, too, was a sister of the groom. The bride’s sister stood between them. The maid of honor’s leg itched, but she didn’t scratch.

Finally the music stopped and a stage whisper came from their left: “Go sit down!”
Bride and groom came out before their friends and family.
“We’ve decided,” he said.
“He decided,” she said.
“That we’re just not ready to get married,” he said.
The bride’s uncle gave a wordless shout and raced towards the groom. Two ushers stopped him.
The bride shouted, “My family paid for a party, and my friends and family are going to have one!”
In the car on the way home, the youngest bridesmaid said, “Do you think they’ll develop the pictures? I really look great in this dress.” They didn’t which was a good thing because she was wrong.
